Summary: You're filling in for an agent at the BAU, but are surprised to find you like one of the team members a little too much.
It was early morning when you got a call from your old friend Aaron. You hadn't spoken to him in a while, so you almost instantly pick up.
"Hey Aaron is everything alright? you don't normally call out of nowhere.” you say, a little more excited than you should've. 
"Yeah Y/n everything is fine except one of our teammates got injured in the field and is currently in the Hospital. I was wondering if you could fill in for her? That is, if you’re not too busy.” He says in a timid voice. 
“I would love to fill in, how is your teammate? Is she alright?” you respond. 
“She’s in stable condition as of now. Her name is Agent Jareau. You were also wondering if you could come in today. You already knew where the office is.” he replies. 
“Of course, I'm on my way.”you say before hanging up and almost running to grab your keys. 
In the car you're starting to get nervous. Are they gonna like you? Well, they don’t even know you, and you're filling in for their hurt friend. You wouldn't exactly be chipper to meet you if you were them. 
Arriving at the office, you're met with an elevator with a lot of floors.
“Shit”, you mumble under your breath. You pull out my phone and send a quick text to Aaron saying,
“Which floor is it again? So confused.”
he responds saying, “6th.”
You press the button and hope that you make a good impression. 
You walk in and meet a very nice woman with colorful clothes you learn whose name is Penelope Garcia. She walks you to Aarons office but she calls him Hotch. You guess now you would have to as well.
“Y/n!” Aaron said brightly “It's great to see you, I see you’ve already met Penelope” he added gesturing to Penelope who was peeking through the doorway.
“It's great to see you too Hotch, thank you for this opportunity!” you say with as much pep as you can muster.
 “Let me call a briefing,” he said with a stern tone. 
“Sure, just let me put my things away.” you say having no idea where to put them. 
“I'll show you where you can” Penelope squeaks from the doorway.
“That would be great thanks!” 
After putting my things down and chatting with Penelope, she leads me to the briefing room. You walk in and are instantly met with eyes all over you. 
Hotch begins, “Team, this is Y/n L/n and she is filling in for JJ.”
“Hi everyone” you say with a meek voice.
“These are agents Derek Morgan, Emily Prentiss, and Dr. Spencer reid.” Hotch continues as you shake everyone's hands, everyone except for the Doctor. Everybody sort of stares at you and snickers as you look like an idiot holding your hand out in front of him. 
“He doesn't shake hands,” Hotch says.
“Oh I'm sorry,” you say quickly. 
“No worries,” Spencer says.
You take my seat wondering about the Doctor but, you don’t have much time to think as the briefing starts. Penelope starts with the briefing and you're listening intently.
 After Penelope is finished, Emily says, “I get he's lighting them on fire but, how are the flames green in the picture, is it a glitch”?
 you hear Spencer start to explain but you quickly say back,
“You can make green fire by mixing together borax or boric acid with methanol to make green flames, and its copper compounds that make flames green, sodium compounds that make them yellow, and calcium compounds that make them orange. Or this guy could have sprinkled some chemicals onto the fire to make it green.”
Everybody looks at you like you're insane. You fucked up didnt you? Spencer especially looks at me intensely. 
“What?” you say confused.
“Thanks,” Prentiss says, sounding surprised.
After the briefing is done and my embarrassing moment is hopefully a far away memory, you go to collect you're things when Hotch says  “Wheels up in 30.”
You Walk over to my desk you were recently given to pick up your things, when somebody approaches. 
“How’d you know all that stuff?” Spencer asks, taking you by surprise. 
“Oh uh about the fire? I read about it a while ago.” 
He smiles subtly and responds with a soft, “Me too.”
After you take your seat on the plane, you feel like you screwed up your first day, that you haven’t even finished. 
Someone sits down next to you to your shock and a little discomfort. It’s Spencer, which makes me extra shocked. 
“Do you mind if I sit here?” He asks softly while avoiding eye contact.
You can’t help but hear Morgan and Prentiss stifle their giggles. 
“Yeah of course.” you reply sweetly. 
There's a few minutes of horrible silence before it's broken by Morgan saying,
“So what do we know about our unsub?” 
“What we do know is he killed 3 people by burning them to death.” Prentiss says.
“We also know he killed only men, in their twenties, and they all went to the same University, North Carolina state ” you add reluctantly.
“And that’s where we’re going.” Hotch adds while coming to take a seat closer to everyone.
“This guy didn’t want to be seen, he only killed at night and was probably covered in a hoodie or dark clothing. He waited until these kids were out drinking and followed them out. When he cornered them, he would pour a methanol and boric acid mixture on them and set them on fire with matches.” Spencer states.
The rest of the plane ride went smoothly, other than the little looks you and Spencer kept sharing. Why did he keep glancing at you? And why did you keep glancing at him? 
We arrive at the college and split up into groups. Of course you and Spencer are in a group together. We begin interviewing the students, everyone seemed shaken up. Poor kids. You finish at the college and follow some leads. All of them lead to dead ends except for one. A girl you had met in the science room, as you talked to her, you couldn't help but notice her journal, which was covered in drawings of flames, but they were all different colors. She even wrote out the instructions to make each flame. 
You glance up at Spencer, who returns your look of worry. 
“What are those drawings about?” you ask her politely. 
“Oh. These are just for a science project.” She says a little impudently while closing her book and placing it into her bag. 
“Thanks for the information.” Spencer says before walking off. You follow closely behind.
 “Hi, is there anything else you need?” The teacher asks. 
“Yea. Have you been working on anything to do with flames, or different compounds for different colored flames?” Spencer says quietly.
“Flames. flames… Nope, Sorry nothing to do with flames.” She replies.
You walk off feeling more and more suspicious of the girl with the book. After heading back to the station you look further into this girl's life. Her name is Mikalya Sterman, and from what you can tell she’s your criminal.
 Suddenly Hotch rushes in while saying, “There’s been another victim, same college, same gender, and age. We have to go now.”
Rushing to the car, you somehow are sitting with Spencer. You are solving a crime yet you still can’t get the adorable Doctor out of your head. 
“How are you feeling about this case?” you ask desperately to break the silence.
“I think it's the girl we met, I mean, the drawings, the behavior, everything. She has to be our criminal.” He utters.
“Yea, I mean why else would she lie about those drawings. Also, I like your tie.” you say and immediately want to jump out of the car.
The car stops and Hotch and Prentiss get out of the driver's seat and you quickly follow. You try to run away from Spencer by speed walking to the scene and hiding your face. It doesn’t work. 
“Thanks, I typically wear ties that match the rest of what I’m wearing like- this. So uh thanks.” He says holding out his sweater. 
“Cute.” you add with a smile. 
“Lovebirds, time to solve a crime!” Morgan states from the scene while Prentiss is laughing her ass 
off.
Hotch rolls his eyes. Spencer and you quickly walk to the scene.
While examining the body you find a pendant hanging across the victim's neck.
“This belonged to Mikalya. I remember seeing her wear it while we were talking.” you tell everyone.
“Yea she was definitely wearing it.” Spencer adds on. 
“Well what does this mean?” Prentiss asks. 
“It means we need to find our killer.” Hotch states.
He sends you out in groups except, this time you're with Prentiss, not Spencer.
“Soooo- Spencer.” She says coyly. 
“Spencer’s sweet.” you mutter back.
“Mhmmm” she insists “and what else?”
“Okay okay, he’s super cute and sweet and smart and nice, and sweet, an-.” you sputter before she cuts you off with, “Ok ok ok ok! I get it, he’s amazing. Sooo- what are we gonna do about this?”
“Nothing! Jesus, actually- nevermind! I don’t know!” you spit.
“We are looking for a murderer and you’re thinking about my kind-of-crush!” you whisper-yell at her.
“Oh please, they already caught the killer.” She says pointing to where they had, in fact, already arrested the killer.
“B-but! How? I was- WE were right here.” you say.
“Yes but your kind-of-crush was so distracting, you couldn’t even solve a crime!” she laughs.
“Oh my god. What have I become? Emily, help me.” you say sarcastically.
“I’m gonna ask everybody to go for drinks- wait- how about, you ask everybody to go for drinks, I’ll tell everybody else but Spencer to decline! I’m a genius.”
She says slyly before you add “No- yes- wait-okay, fine I’m on board.”
“YES!” she shouts a little too loud for comfort as we both walk back to the cars.
Driving back you weren't in the same car as Spencer despite Emily’s suspicious efforts to change that.
We get back on the plane and Spencer sits down next to you again.
“It’s still okay if I sit with you right?” He mutters.
“Of course Spencer, you don’t need to ask.” you reply with a reassuring tone.
He smiles shyly at your comment and you swear you see him blush.
Back at the BAU everybody gathers and you ask, “Hey does anybody want to go get some food or drinks?” 
Emily winks at you and she's the first to say, “Sorry, I'm so tired. Maybe another time?”
Everyone else goes along with their excuses until Spencers the last one to speak.
“Sure! I'm starving.” He says while putting on his jacket and walking toward you. 
“Great.” you say smiling. We both walk out, and you swear you can hear Emily and Derek chortling from the elevator.

Given ethanol is about two-thirds as energy dense as gasoline, and hybrids can be 50% more efficient than conventional…wouldn’t an ethanol-powered hybrid be ideal? Just as good as gas at a fraction the emissions. Also alcohol can’t explode and doesn’t produce big clouds of black smoke, if it catches fire in a crash (one of several reasons auto racing uses methanol, which is only half as energy dense as gas but a lot cheaper than ethanol—and you really don’t care about fuel economy in auto racing).
Also the irony of breaking the back of oil sheikhs using alcohol. Always in the end the vine is avenged on them that do not respect it, be it by drinking of it too much, or too little.

whats the biggest safety hazard you've committed in any lab?
This is a very funny question, and a little bit up to interpretation of the question?
For safety hazards I have personally been harmed by/exposed to, these come to mind:
1) exposure to silica/glass dust at my advanced manufacturing internship (sorry, not technically a lab) where I cut and laid up structures made of layered fiberglass and resins, we had a shop vac set up by the CNC machine drill bit to suck in the dust but yknow. It wasn't perfect. And I also had to clean out the shop vac during the internship. Permanent glass dust in the lungs is a bit spooky.
2) cutting myself on the (used) razor in the cryotome when I was sectioning rat brains for an internship in a translational medicine lab. Pretty gross because of the biological contact but the cut itself was small and tbh lab rat tissues are way cleaner than most food meats so maybe this one wasn't actually that bad.
3) exposure to solvent fumes/powderized toxic chemicals while setting up reactions or doing workups, or OH DEF WHILE MAKING SDS PAGE GELS. But like, one day I was rotovapping like, liters of DCM and methanol which are p carcinogenic. Rotovaps don't normally live in a fume hood, but the air flow in my lab is poor and the air is way too hot so stuff readily vaporizes and every time I swapped out the collection flask some stuff would drip onto the bench and go into the air. Water also kept condensing on the outside of the cold finger, and while I was swapping the flasks, it would freeze on the ball/socket joint and fuck with proper sealing. So during rotovapping some vapors continued to escape. Oh and in the biotech lab at my community college we had ethidium bromide like. fucking everywhere. But that's not actually as bad for you as people make it out to be (otherwise there would be a lot more dead undergrads in the world lol)
There were some scary hazards in theory- like discovering after we moved my current lab that there were a bunch of water reactives/pyrophorics/self reactive chemicals that were previously kept in the inert gas environment of the glove box and for about a month lived on the bench top, maybe parafilmed or in ziplock bags but otherwise fairly exposed, while we organized and sorted all the chemicals into proper storage locations. I've had some glass explode on me under pressure or crack under heat, but usually within a fume hood (and I have goggles on whenever I am in lab). I work with liquid nitrogen fairly often now and scare myself overfilling Dewars and getting it on my gloves.
In a NON lab setting, my dad and ex gf had a blacksmithing shed in the backyard. So, heat hazards, sharps hazards, gas hazards, etc. Some acids for etching damascus that were left out in unlabeled containers. I've burned myself grabbing steel I assumed was cold (because it was black), but was several hundreds of degrees. The WORST thing is we used to have a wooden support table underneath our home built forge. The forge was fairly well insulated but ig it ran too hot for too long one day and at night the table started smoldering. It caught fire, right next to a bunch of propane tanks. We wouldn't have noticed either if my friend sleeping over that night- he left to hookup with someone off of grindr in the parking lot next door, came back, and saw the fire when he came back in the apartment. Woke us up and we put it out lol. Replaced that fucker with a welded steel table after that.
And then my dad is a weapons manufacturer/engineer so I've grown up around tons of guns and explosives and leaded ammunition and blah blah blah. So I guess those were safety hazards too.

he thinks he’s addicted.
when they self-implode and when they disappear like they were foreseen by the fates to do, he can’t watch. he begs, i can’t watch you do this to yourself, i can’t watch you leave, and they tell him to look away. he’s not sure when he got into this role of savior, of victim, of beggar, of abandoned. he’s so mad, so furious with them, angry at the drug he can’t live without. there he’ll die, not from their creation but from their absence. because he’s the best of them, he’s too good and too bright and there are stars in his eyes instead of coal and he can’t follow them into oblivion because he is simply better than this path. better than cowardice. better than hatred.
but if they leave he has nothing. what they do not know is that his cells have regenerated as remnants of them, that if they tore open his limbs and exposed all the dirty innards they would find themselves lingering, and if they took out his spinal cord up to his brain, they would find his nerves warped and haywire, all his senses leading to them. a singular point, a focus, a purpose. a life force made up of people who are not alive. but what they don’t know won’t hurt them. and jungkook was only fourteen but now he is an addict and he always will be. if their fire makes him human then he was born to be consumed by the flames, and if they are the ghosts, fleeing towards the seas and away from home, then jungkook will follow them to the ends of the earth.

Thing I Can Make Out On The White Board:
1) The CRM is clearly planning to make a move on Portland. We know this because the map the promo shows, the top left says Portland and Post Operation, that latitude and longitude for Portland, Oregon are on the board. (Also, the World Beyond spinoff, which I have not watched)

2) I think the π symbol could be a reference to pizza or an implication that the story is now coming full circle.
3) RPED and marine - marine is a military branch and I think RPED can either stand for Respiratory Protective Escape Device or Rapid Prototyping Experimentation Demonstration. We know that the CRM has made devices to attack people with chlorine gas, we also know that they are performing experiments.

4) Radio G7 Span and East of River - G7 is the Group of 7 that includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK, and the US. It is a government thing. I think this shows the widespread reach of the CRM. When I looked up East of River, it brought up Washington DC, as East of the River is a part of DC called the East End.

5) Food Lines/Inventory Seeds RW 32.62527 - I can't put a whole lot of meaning to this beyond possibly trying to attack Portland's food supply, unless seeds are referring to their bomb capsules. Both the Seed stand and the seed mention made me think back to the season 3x1 Seed but that can just be a coincidence.

6) Code 3362, FL/only - I haven't been able to find what code 3362 means, but I think FL means food lines OR front lines.

7) Engage -> Assess -> Execute -> Reclamation -> PPP exception - I think this is just how they keep files on communities and document them. I am uncertain exactly what the PPP exception is, although I have made 2 posts on it. I think it means Power Projection Platforms in regards to what the CRM views as assets (A's who can be reformed the the CRMs benefit, and control military forces) or medically it refers to glycolysis and the Pentose Phosphate Pathway and how the body responds to methanol (metabolic acidosis).

8) Echelon Exception - we are aware that there is something called the Echelon Briefing. We know that historically Echelon was a government surveillance program (which is similar to how the CRM knows about all these communities). We also know that Echelon literally means rung of a ladder or level.

9) Intel / Rules / Contact Park - I cannot read anything that it says in between the section titles. I do know there was a character on Fear the Walking Dead: Dead on the Water (or something along those lines) named Park. That show was about the USS Pennsylvania (I think) going against its orders to fire up on Chicago.

10) Refinery C2H5OH1 - The CRM is manufacturing ethanol. We know ethanol to be alcohol, the most concentrated form being moonshine. We know that if not made properly, it becomes methanol which is poisonous to the body because our body turns it into formaldehyde. I think this is why Beth says "bad moonshine can make you go blind" and I also think this is why Alone takes place in a funeral home. (I also think Alone took place in a funeral home to emphasize the fact that Beth did not get a funeral). I think this is Pharmakon, poison and cure coming full circle. Even in the episode Still, Peach Schnapps was a poison and Moonshine was the cure. (Daryl said Peach Schnapps is not good and Moonshine is a real first drink).

This is just info, I can't really make the best sense of it all as I have no watched any of the spinoffs and haven't seen past Carl's death in the show. (My fiance and I are only on 5x7 of our rewatch)

Who doesn't like fire? How about colored fire?
Burning methanol spits up a beautiful blue flame. It even seems to be smokeless with nothing left behind after the fire goes out, showing a very efficient burn
Enter lithium methoxide. When mixed with methanol, lithium will rip the H off the methanol and dissolve in, giving off hydrogen gas in the process 2(CH3OH) + 2(Li) -> 2(CH3OLi) + H2
With this new concoction, the bright crimson of burning lithium shines
The lithium fire is so bright, the ISO of the camera can be dropped significantly until the surroundings are nothing but void. Leaving only the flame visible
The white lithium oxide powder left over after burning is a strong alkaline, like bleach. Touching it will suck all the moister out of skin, and it'll start to peel away. Eat at your own risk

9 Safety Guidelines for Handling Sodium Methoxide and Other Reactive Alkoxides
It can be said that safety is not just one among many priorities; rather, it is an entire domain of study in the chemical manufacturing sphere. These substances are highly reactive: Sodium Methoxide, Potassium Methoxide, and Lithium Tert Butoxide have so many applications from pharmaceutical to coating industries; hence, such substances, by the very nature of their reactivity, have to be handled responsibly. A reprimand to any technician or industrial chemist is that he must know how to handle things safely. 
This blog takes a look at and explains 9 safety considerations concerning proper handling with Sodium Methoxide and other reactive alkoxides.
1. Know the Reactivity of Alkoxides Before You Begin
The chemical behavior strongly influences the handling of a special compound. Being a strong base, sodium methoxide powder violently reacts with water to produce methanol and heat. Likewise, compounds of Potassium Methoxide in Methanol are highly flammable and should never be exposed to open flames or moisture.
Being alkoxides, Sodium Tert Butoxide and Lithium Tert Butoxide are air- and moisture-sensitive to the extent that, under some very peculiar circumstances, they may even be able to ignite spontaneously. Therefore, these substances are to be stored in closed containers under nitrogen or argon gases. Give a thorough review of the complete safety data sheet (SDS) before handling unless otherwise stated.
2. Use the Right PPE—Always
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is the first line of defense. When handling Sodium Methoxide Powder or Sodium N Butylate in N Butanol, one needs full chemical-resistant gloves (butyl rubber or Viton), a face shield, a lab coat, and eye protection.
Alkoxides will burn so severely that contact with the skin or eyes must be avoided. Because even a minute amount of it can set off chemical reactions, PPE must be used at all times, whether it is during pouring, transferring, or merely inspecting the containers or equipment.
3. Maintain a Dry Work Environment
Water is the bane of reactive alkoxides. Sodium Tertiary Butoxide and Potassium Tertiary Butoxide react violently-and violently means, with heat release, alcohols being liberated that are flammable, and these could easily start fires and explosions if they come in contact with water.
Ideally, the work should be carried out in a humidity-controlled room. Actually, use desiccators, and ensure that all instruments are properly dried. Avoid working close to sinks or steam sources. The integrity of these compounds may be affected by airborne moisture with time, especially so if the compounds are finely powdered.
4. Use Proper Storage Methods
Alkalides shelflife and safety are only because of the improper storage arrangement. The riskier the container, the cheaper it should not be; Lithium Tertiary Butoxide should always be viewed as a liquid at risk and should be nearly hermetically sealed in the chemically resistant container. If there is any possibility of light degradation of the substance, ammonium bottles should be used for storage.
Containers should have labels with the substance name and hazard symbols. Also, storage conditions should be printed on the container walls. Sodium methoxide powder or potassium methoxide shouldn't be stored with acids or oxidizers in methanol, or near any ignition sources. Long-term storage is mostly conducted within chemical refrigerators or inert atmosphere glove boxes in industrial establishments.
5. Use Fume Hoods and Inert Atmosphere Chambers
